Characteristics:

Mood: Relaxed formality, welcoming, rich in cultural diversity.

Woods/Finishes: Eclectic mix of select hardwoods & finishes ranging from crackle, distressed, deep rich tones or pale creamy painted surfaces.

Accents: Combinations that include stone table bases, with glass tops or wood with marble tops. Metal grill work accented in gold or silver leaf. Hallmarks of this style are deep & ornate carvings on legs & aprons. Intricate inlaid wood tops, serpentine fronts on dressers & chests. Large scale bed posts which sometimes support a grand canopy. Classical architectural details include dentil molding, acanthus leaf carving & shell motif.

Furniture & Textiles: Typically the furniture is of grand proportion and leans towards the formal side of eclectic. Textiles include: tapestry, chenille, velvet, silk. Tufted leather with nail head trim. Trimmings include beads, bullion, fringes & tassels.

Color: Continental colors come from historical Europe. This palette displays old & new influences. Mustard yellow, dark blues, browns, moss green, Bordeaux red, tan.

Accessories: Mohair, velvet or chenille throws trimmed with bullion. Tapestry wall hangings. Lots of accent pillows with a variety of textures. European art reproductions. Large candle sticks. Burnished metals and gilded mirrors. Large area rugs with intricate patterns.
