I grew up
along the shores of Lake Superior in
Upper Peninsula Michigan where I learned
to respect and love nature. At age 17, I
with my parents, 2 sisters and 4
brothers, moved to Spokane
Washington. There, I went to college
the first time and began working in the health care
field. I remained in health care
for 20 years.
In recent
years I returned to college to earn my
Interior Design degree from Scottsdale
Community College in Arizona.
While a student, I had the honor of
being selected to update the theme and
color scheme of the Physical Fitness
room at Glendale Community College.
The inspiration for the project was the
beautiful subdued colors of the Arizona
Desert. The theme was nature
itself. I felt that people would
appreciate being surrounded by scenes
that allow their minds to wander while
exercising.
One of my
student Honors projects was to build a
model of my Great Grandfathers Victorian
Kitchen. I was researching the
development of kitchen design at the
time. Another student project was
to design "The Perfect Chair for
Barbie". The design was
based on a Hershey kiss design and was
displayed at the Vitra Design Museum in
Weil am Rhein, Germany. During my student
life I became a member of
ASID
(American Society of Interior
Designers). I volunteered for a
variety of events and was the
photographer for the Scottsdale Student
Chapter of ASID. I have continued my
relationship with ASID as a designer.
In April 1996 I received the "Blue
Ribbon" Award for Academic Achievement
and in May of 1997 I was graduated with
Honors from Scottsdale Community
College.
After
graduation, I decided to work in the
retail industry. Through my
experiences at Ethan Allen Manor House
and Thomasville Home furnishings, I
learned how important having "people
skills" and excellent customer service
is to running a successful business.
Early in
2002, I began my own business. I
work out of my home and strive to keep
my overhead low so my fees are very
affordable. My work is my
playground. It is fun!
Whether it be a 90 minute consultation,
designing window treatments, custom
bedding, or designing complete rooms or
the whole house, each client and project
is unique.
I am like
a chameleon. I adapt to the
clients needs and give them what they
want at an affordable price while
providing excellent design services
tailored to the individual needs.
As people
change, their needs change. Someone
once said, peoples homes are reflections
of the way they live and think. By
listening to what the clients needs and
tastes are, I find solutions that are
appropriate for the individual's
lifestyle.
When I am
not designing, I enjoy spending time
with my family and pets as well as
exercising,
photography,
cooking and dining out. In
addition, I volunteer at Banner
Thunderbird Hospital with their pet
therapy program. Suzie and I enjoy
visiting patients weekly.
